Do you want to deepen connection in your relationship? Then you’re in the right place!
The Three Big Ideas this week are:
- Connection is the most important component of a healthy relationship–more important than good communication.
- Connection is about skill, not knowledge or compatibility
- To build those skills, it is important to practice the right moves, like learning to play an instrument
You don’t have to give up on having a healthy relationship. I know you may think sometimes that you’re just incompatible with your partner, but it’s usually not the case. Typically, the issue is that we’ve never trained consistently in the right relationship skills and habits, and often our families didn’t model the skills we need to navigate differences, offer support, and manage conflict.
You’d be surprised the difference that learning connecting skills can make. When you focus on connection, and understand how important it is to your relationship health, your relationship will improve immediately. Your connection is typically more critical to your relationship satisfaction than resolving money issues, parenting differences, your sex life or communication. Pair this module with Module 2 on the Nervous System and Module 7 on Emotional IQ and you have the complete set of connecting skills! Use the Welcome Home exercise developed by Dr. Stan Tatkin, make more eye contact, and use a playful push hands when you’re feeling disconnected. These are great tools, and they also help you build and practice connection beyond just the exercises. Have fun and see you next week (block the time for next week’s video now)!
